Simple, Accurate & Inexpensive
I had this installed in a matter of minutes after receiving it. It comes pre-programed but the times and temps were not to my liking so I programed it and had it drop the two middle times so mine just has wake and sleep. Programing literally could not be easier. I don't know why there are so many reviewers having trouble with the light-up display, mine is very bright. Simply press the temp up or down button momentarily and the backlight comes on and this does not raise or lower the temp, you would have to touch the temp button again to make a change. The unit looks good too, much better than the Robertshaw from 1988 that it replaced. The unit really does keep the temperature right where you set it too but this may not be such a good thing. The Robertshaw unit was set for 77 degrees and would not come on until the temp reached 78. It would lower the temp to 76 then shut the A/C off. The Honeywell unit is also set for 77 degrees but instead of a 2 degree spread it has a +/- 1 degree accuracy which means you never see it move off of 77 degrees. The problem is that while it keeps the temp right where you want it, it makes your equipment work twice as hard to maintain this kind of accuracy. I've been working in my office right next to the A/C closet ever since I installed it several hours ago and have been keeping a log of start/stop times just to see how it's doing and on average the A/C has been running 8 minutes and resting for 12 minutes all day. This is much more than the Robertshaw unit that had less accuracy and I really don't notice the difference. The problem is that all this extra stopping and starting can't be good for the equipment and I would imagine that it will use more electricity, once the blower motor is up to speed it doesn't take much to keep it going but you can see the lights dim when it starts so you know all those extra starts are using more "juice". I still like this thermostat though, and have given it 5 stars. I just wish Honeywell would have put one more code entry screen in the programing of this unit that would allow the user to put more of a spread between the on and off temps to save wear and tear on the equipment.

Worked perfect
Thought I needed to replace this I didn’t. It didn’t fix my problem, but it worked well. It fit perfectly, and was easy to use.

"Smart/Adaptive Response" is designed to save you money with Heatpumps...
Background: Have bought five 6000 series T-stat's, personally installed four of them, and believe in their ease of use and longevity. Easy to install for this "all thumbs" handyman, but usually takes longer than 15 minutes. Great product, but manuals and the list of misleading (not intentionally I don't think ) highlights makes initial installation and use a bit more difficult than it needs to be. Thus the 4 stars instead of 5.BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front): The "Smart Response/Adaptive Response" technology is designed to save you money with multi-stage heatpumps (ie heatpump, with heat strips). When using with gas or oil, I have found it best to turn off the "Response" system. I will clarify this as I explain my experience below..Multi-Stage Heatpumps: The "Response" technology works best here because it learns how long it will take to heat/cool your house. Then it begins "Recovery" mode early enough to reach the set temperature via the cheapest possible path. In winter this means with the heatpump but WITHOUT the emergency heat strips. For example, if the thermostat is set at 60 overnight, and needs to get to 70 by 6AM, it might kick-on the heat pump at 5AM because it knows it will take about an hour to warm-up the house with heat pump ONLY.Whereas if you have the "Response" turned off in this same scenario the system thinks "Oh S**T" I need to get to 70 as fast as possible" and kicks in BOTH pump and heat strip, and you just watch those dollar bills fly out of your pocket and into your local electric company coffers. :)Propane, Natural Gas and Oil: Because of the instant heat there is not the need for response technology because there is no dollar differential between fast and slow temperature increases. Now, I would think in a well-insulated modern house this technology might be convenient, but in older houses and older HVAC systems, the "Recovery Mode" seems to kick in WAY too early. And this could easily lead to higher bills rather than saving you money.CONCLUSION: With multi-stage heat pumps you must have the "Response Technology "ON". For gas and Oil start with "Response Technology" in the "OFF" position. Unfortunately the "How to" on turning it on and off is in the Installation manual, rather than the instruction manual. Which is weird, and another reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5. :)HELPFUL TIP: You might want to purchase coverplates for around $15 (2 slightly different sized plates in the packet) before starting. Very handy for covering up paint and holes in the wall around the new thermostat and gives it a nicely finished look. You can install the plate later, but will have to uninstall THEN reinstall the thermostat completely, which is a royal pain in the butt...SOME THINGS I'VE LEARNED: Since writing the above review, I've paid more attention to the "Smart Response" in my thermostats and have some observations.First, BE PATIENT as the thermostat "learns" your home. At first it will turn on WAY too early utilizing "Recovery Mode" to get to the correct temp but after a few days it will settle down. And, remember, it needs to "learn" your house for each season. So if you have the air on when first installed, the first time you turn on the heat it needs a few days to get adjusted. But after that you should be good.BUT, even after some time, it kicks in and still tends to reach it's "target temp" early. I think (Full Disclosure: I'm NOT an engineer just guessing here...) that's because most homes aren't consistent in cooling/heating. During the day (and depending on the day) foot traffic is going in and out of the door increasing the time to reach a specific temp, while at night the system shouldn't be as taxed and will travel the same temperature range in a shorter time. The "Smart Response" still constantly adjusts but seems to use an average between the two.Damn, this is getting WAY longer than I intended, but will still update if I notice anything else. :)

It is what any house needs and nothing more or less
This is a five day (mondy-Friday) and a (Saturday-Sunday) programable thermostate. You can't program each individual day but you can set progarm in 4 different time intervals. You can change the time you want for wake, leave, stay, and sleep. Then for the weekend you can change the schedule differently because you will eiher have a different schedule than the weekdays. I had a cheap one from one of the box stores. It would not be accurate with actual temperture in the house. This thermostate is easy to program, can take it off wall mount to program (or program when attached), and has a back light when being used. It is very accurate in knowing the current temperture in the house and keeps the house +/- 1 accurate from the programed temp. There were some complaints on how it runs earlier than programed time, but it is actually nice because it will heat or cool house before time so when you want the house to be 74 at 6 p.m it will already be 74. It is a great price, it was $49 total when the exact one at home depot was$60 plus tax. It has what you need and not all the extra things not needed for just more money. It does what it is suppose to accurate, easy, reasonable price. Trust me I did a lot of research on Thermostates.

Thermostat noise
The audible clicking sound emitted when it turns heat on and off is irritating. This information should be listed in the product description as it important prior to purchase. Otherwise it works well.

thermostat accurary off by 4 to 5 degrees F
This is the second unit, I return first one because for temp inaccuracy off by 5 degree F both unit. I compare with temp probe fluke meter and a couple other thermostat and by original manual thermostat it 4 to 5 degree F off. see attach pictureI phone Honeywell technical support there is no way to calibrate it.the furnace turn on and off to often don't like.returning it for a full refund. Amazon should take it off it website.
