Quality has really declined over the years
Jan. 2017.I have been buying a pair of these every year for at least the last 10 years. This is my everyday boot. Comfortable, light. Hard to beat. Nov. 2017. Hate to do this. But the quality of these boots has really declined. 2016 edition, sole started to detach after 11 months. Thought it was a fluke. This pair? After 10 months same thing. In the past, I would have to retire the old one when the soles wore down. These last two, didn't come close to that. WAY too expensive to put up with this. I guess I will hunt for another brand.

The only hiking boots I have ever recommended to another human being.
This is my second pair of Lowa Renegade hiking boots. These things are actually waterproof; I have been in rivers, streams, bogs, oceans, tundra, and mountains in these boots. I wore the first pair through the soles so I had to buy a second. These boots are the real deal; they will keep you dry without having to wear a large neoprene or rubber boot. Granted water that goes through the top will still get you wet, but if you have a good pair of rain pants even that is not a huge problem (that combination stops ocean waves and rain at least).

happy for first 10 months - then toe sole separation
Great day hiking boot. NO break in required. Have hike 50 to 100 miles this season carrying pack up to 20/25 lbs with no blisters and it is holding up well. Sole is extra sticky and can walk up steep granite rocks, eg. acadia national park, with a firm footing. Walking through shallow streams and boots held up and no water got into the shoe. Sole is not as stiff as my last pair of hiking boots so i do feel some of the rougher rock edges when i skip from rock to rock up a trail. Not a real problem though. When i know i am doing elevation and heading down hill i can definitely adjust the boots and tighten the bottom 4 eyelets to ensure my foot doesnt move at all and hit the toe box. Otherwise i keep it a little looser for comfort. Spent a lifetime playing basketball and sprained my ankles numerous times. I sometimes tweek my ankle walking down a city street in business shoes when i hit uneven pavement/sidewalk. These boots definitely provide enough ankle support and I havent come close to hurting my ankles on the rough trails. One of the reasons i bought these shoes is because lowa is one of the few brands that goes above size 14. Seems my feet have grown in my old age and i have gone from 13 to 14 in most shoes and generally most hiking boots are too short in a 14 and i have to now buy size 15. Thankfully Lowa offers larger sizes.UPDATE- 10 Months laterDoing day hikes, not rock scrambling, not trekking through snow, not leavings in front of fire to dry... Rubber started separating from leather in front of boot on top. both boots around the entire toe box. Unacceptable in my mind for $200+ boots. Wrote to lowa and their customer server had me ship me the boots and they reviewed and shipped me back a new pair in 2 weeks or less. New boot look and feel great and again no break in. Wonder how long these boots will hold up. Buy a pair of boot with a rubber toe guard in the front like most hiking boot have and this will avoid separation problems. Hopefully new pair holds up better but based on the other reviews I dont have high hopes.

Long search for mid-weight hikers/walkers finally over...
Really nice light/mid weight hikers. Fit is very comfortable right out of the box. Very much true to size - great for high-volume feet. I have wide (EE) feet and the 9.5W is a perfect fit. Also fits well over the arch which is one place I often find shoes to fit too tight on me.These are pretty light in weight, 25 oz (717 g) per shoe in my size, yet they have very solid footing. Excellent outer sole. Mild arch support (not enough for me) but in-sole is removable and shoe had enough room for SuperFeet heel-arch orthotics.I have been on the hunt for a good solid mid-weight hiker for a while now. These are a bit pricey and I hate to spend over $200 on a pair of shoes, but the cheapy Chinese stuff that dominates the market these days just doesn't cut it. In the end, money well spent in my book.

Super comfortable worth the price
Used these puppies for my camping trip this past memorial weekend. THEY WORKED GREAT. 2 days out. First day went fishing out to the river put them to the test (accidently) sliped in off a rock foot stayed dry 5 inches into the flowing river. Day 2 took them on a 1.9 mile hike 1400ft incline one way. Really comfortable as can be. They were a great investment. Been using them more than i thought i would since. Well worth the price. Will note personally maybe half a size up, fit a little snug. But even so great boot.

Comfortable right out of the box
As an old time Lowa fan I ordered these boots because I was looking for a high quality light leather hiking boot for some serious desert hiking. And I was not disappointed.Right out of the box they were perfect. The toe is roomy but I could detect no movement in the heel from my first step. That seems to be partially due to a very functional rocker in the sole. This rocker helps keep my foot in place on the footbed but also makes each step seem to happen with very little effort. The rocker also kind of pre-sets the shoe for going uphill as well without having to force the sole to bend. I was very surprised by how much that enhances the performance of these boots. They are also much lighter than I expected which also helps with the feeling of walking with very little effort. One adjustment I made after hiking with these boots the first time was to tighten the lower laces pretty tight (which is OK with the roomy toebox) and then using that little lace cross over that you use to start to tie your shoes at the place where the upper lacing starts to help keep it tighter on the bottom. Then I laced the upper part looser so that the upper boot didn't rub my ankle. That was perfect.I'm a happy camper!

Falling apart again less than a year of use.
Bought them less than a year ago. Used them for less than two months of hiking and now they are falling apart. ( the sole delineated, and inside of one of the shoes came apart ) This is the second pair that I bought of the same shoes in year and a half, and same thing happened to the first pair. Amazon was great and replaced them. I used to like those shoes but now I would have to look for some other brand. I contacted Lowa support, they asked me to send them pictures of the damage. After they asked me to send them the boots. At the end they sent me new boots. Thank you Lowa Support. And we will see how long those last.

Boot Bliss.
I have had these a while now and they are fantastic. They were very comfy first time out and keep my feet dry. Perfect fit after ordering a size bigger than my normal shoe size as recommended on the ordering website.Since writing this I have measured my foot carefully and the size works out 1 size bigger than all my old shoes which still fit. Either sizes have shifted or my foot has expanded with age and my old shoes have all stretched. My advice would now be to measure your foot, use a size to cm chart, and order the right size unless you like to wear extra thick socks. I use 1000 mile socks with size 8 boots and I measure a size 8.

without a doubt the most comfortable walking boots I have owned
Absolutely, without a doubt the most comfortable walking boots I have owned. I walk, on average, 40 miles a week so do go through boots like there's not tomorrow. Straight from the box these have been so comfortable to wear. The boots have performed well so far, good support, lots of padding, very waterproof, easy to clean and they have a really good robust feel about them. That said....we'll see in 6 months time whether they can stand the test of time - but, at the moment they are absolutely perfect!

Great boots
I bought these for my boyfriend, here is his review;I originally ordered my size (size 7) these proved to be very tight and small. So I returned them and got a size 8 instead.Just back from a 4km walk - the boots are great, like walking on pillows, sturdy, comfortable and well made, I’m looking forward to walking many miles in these.Five stars.

very comfortable
tried these boots on in a well known outdoor store, but decided to buy online from amazon and save a few quid..Have walked about 25 miles so far around my local area to 'break in' the boots, but not really necessary as they were very comfortable straight out of the box.Not used them in anger yet but am about to embark on a 4 day hike in the scottish highlands, so time will tell. Am optomistic they will do the job

Great boots that are truly waterproof
Great boots, no breaking in required they are really comfortable straight out the box. I have had them a couple of weeks and wore every day for dog walking. As any dog walker will tell you, walking in long wet grass makes most boots leak. Not these, my feet are dry . Best boots I've had by a long way.
